>the Hyundai Kona from 2020
they're not really a better value.
the kona is a b-segment crossover. ie, a golf with a lift. and in its best trim, its 65kwhr with 200hp, FWD. in case you're wondering "why the fuck would you make a FWD EV?", its because its a FWD ICE platform that they shoved an EV drivetrain into.
meanwhile, a *base* trim tesla is a whole segment larger, c-segment, has a frunk, has slightly lower capacity (~50kwhr, varies by year), but also better efficiency(in miles/kwhr terms), and is ~300hp and RWD. and that's the base trim, never mind the long range AWD ones, which are iirc ~75kwhr and what, 450ish hp?
oh, and it has access to superchargers, which im not sure if the kona has.
also, im not sure if "exceptional" is the right word to describe a konda's range. iirc it tops out at 250miles or so, and that's the official rating. when it was new.
plus, imo the range is pretty irrelevant, as iirc the kona can't really charge very fast at all. iirc it takes 60mins to do a 10-80% stop? with a model 3, it varies by the precise vintage, but its always much faster. pretty sure even the earliest model 3s could do 150ish miles over 30mins at a supercharger.
even if you could save a couple grand going with the kona, would you choose it over a model 3?
>I can't find a 2020 Tesla that isn't priced like a 2023 non-Tesla EV with reasonable mileage.
bullshit.
when you go 2021 and above that prices for model 3s jump a little, because there was some major update to it. prior to that, its quite easy to find them at 20k or even slightly below. see top of picrel. and you definitely can't find 2023 evs for less, unless we're talking a renault zoe or something, lol.
but even if you wanna go that new, its still incredible value. eg see bottom of picrel, a 2021 awd long range for 27k.
>I would stay away from the older Nissan Leafs and such
yea, obviously. imo anything that predates the model 3 is 100% a compliancemobile, no real life usability
