He was always pretty pathetic even in the original, it just feels like there are more scenes to flesh it out now. He's more understandable but as a consequence you get even more examples of him being useless. It wasn't hard to cuck him out of the throne even with the weird stat check system the old version used.
I'm playing the remake for the first time and I'm being friendly to him, so maybe I just haven't seen it, but the biggest difference so far is that in the original I remembered being able to be downright vicious to him if your relationship was bad enough, like telling him outright that Clara chose you over him because you're better.
