There are wrong reasons to enjoy things, but you know what? That's absolutely fine, you can enjoy something for whatever reason you want. The problem is when you try to push that onto others, or lie and say that the reasons they enjoy it are actually major elements of it.
Here's an example: The largest Western Touhou fangame community is the "Touhou Game Dev Hub". They've partnered with Touhou Station to do gamejams, which ZUN himself has played on stream, so they have a fair bit of "legitimacy". Outside of the Touhou Station collab jams, they typically host 3 of their own gamejams a year. Two of those have a random theme, usually just one word. But the 3rd gamejam is a Pride Month gamejam, the next of which is happening in little over a week and can be seen here https://itch.io/jam/touhou-pride-7
Why has the "official" Touhou game dev community done a Pride Month gamejam for 7 years in a row now? Because, in their own words

Yes, because Touhou is supposedly full of themes and stories that attract them, as if they don't just latch onto anything that has cute girls and then try to claim it as their own.
