Honestly what really killed it was the jannies fumbling with the Left 4 Touhou gamenight thread (for context it was a cross-site gamenight thing but someone was larping a schizo meltdown calling everyone traitors to Hiroyuki for daring to even associate with altchans and the Jannies not only didn't ban them for all the threadshitting they were doing they actually moved the thread to /vm/ which is of course a really weird thing to do since it's for /jp/'s community specifically. It just immediately told everyone "nothing was learned and if anything they're even worse because before they left the gamenight threads alone")
It's like hey who knew that throwaway joke from the /v/-rage comic that /jp/ was /v/'s daughter would turn out to actually be accurate. /jp/ actually really cares about their vidya time

I notice K****u has been doing some very regular gamenights now (although due to scheduling I always miss them) but the ones i'm there for are always a joy. I'm still keeping an eye open for MTA so I can keep my promise to let you guys know about it
