Noticed that too. It's maybe passive spirit gain via boons? Not sure. However Open Wounds gives spirit, as does recharge upgrade and the reload imbue. Both only affect his one and only damage skill.
Dynamo gains a lot of spirit for free with levels, but only if you manage to actually level. I also collect a lot of statues and vending machines from the enemy side of the map but I don't think those affect the bars?
