Not to mention how fucking scary a centuries-old swordmaster vampire would be in a small skirmish setting with no backup coming. Mordheim does an excellent job of this, if you come across an undead warband, the vampire is a terrifying murder machine.
Now that I mention it, I think the Barony of the Damned 2e supplement had a vampire nobleman encounter that kind of fills this role. I know I just shilled it to the other anon, but it's really quite good inspiration for all things undead.
