Gustave should have lasted till the end of Act 2, which would have allowed them to flesh out the relationships between the characters, especially Verso, better, then there could have been an emotional "passing the torch" moment between him and Gustave.
As it was, it was literally "lol Gustave is dead ur this random new guy Verso now" which had zero impact.
Very poor writing.
