No but the game originally had 3 romance paths and one of those was Selphie's. Nomura ruined the game during production by being a massive Rinoafag. If you wondered why Selphie contrasts with Squall so well and why he's so nice to her, then yeah. here's your answer. Selphie's romance path was also written first I think so you see leftovers of it in the game (this makes your point half correct)
