The only way it can be made interesting if a game/ fantasy setting doesn't shy away from the darker elements like Colonialism, barbarism, human sacrifice, but ff14 is not that game.
FF16 did have dark moments but I think YoshiP was burned on FF16 being 'too dark fantasy' and wanted Dawntrail to be the antithesis to that setting which I'm guessing is why there is so much 'peace and happiness, SMILE!' theming going on.
