>Mahou shoujo primarily focuses on a cast of girls
Ehhh, not really? If your only exposure to the genre is a series that follows a magical girl group like Sailor Moon, Ojamajo Doremi, or Tokyo Mew Mew it may feel that way, but there's plenty of examples that feature a sole magical girl (and I'm pretty sure the genre began that way as well). Cardcaptor Sakura, Full Moon o Sagashite, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne, Creamy Mami, and Pretear (which was brought up last thread) come to mind, and there's way more to list, but I think you get the idea.
I think the problem lies with uncreative writers who would have to actually spend time thinking up a unique premise and scenario rather than taking the easy route of copying and pasting what's done in magical girl group series (which are more prevalent now than when the genre first began).
Anyways, this is sort of off topic so I won't dwell on it any longer, but I do think it would be nice to have a thread solely dedicated to female-oriented media.
