Since the game is copying a lot of things from Warframe, and based on the menus shown in the devstream, I'm expecting this journey:
>blueprints as enemy/boss drops (since you need to "collect" them), or possibly locked behind timegates like in Warframe (for example, a daily cap on the specific currency used to buy blueprints and other items from a specific faction/town/etc)
>material grinding to craft the weapon (mentioned in the devstream)
>crafting times (3 hours for 5*/gold-tier weapons, based on the devstream)
>lots of demon wedges to farm (stat-boosting gems, stuff like weapon damage, reload speed, spell range, etc. you can equip 8 of them per weapon/character by default)
>wedge exp grinding (to increase the effects above, up to 5 levels)
>weapon exp grinding (to increase the weapon's base stats and wedge cap, up to 60 levels)
>some stupid grind to unlock that locked 9th wedge slot
You don't need to level wedges for every weapon you craft, at least (the devstream shows the same wedge being be equipped on multiple weapons). Characters also have their own wedges so you also need to grind them if you want that infinite MP build for your katana-wielding tentacle loli. You probably need to grind wedges for the tiny flying companions too.
Warframe have some other grindy systems that increases the time you spend powering-up a single weapon/character/flying-mascot (formas, rivens, shards, etc), and I expect DNA to include them eventually (or turn them into gacha content).
