Let's just take God Eater 3. I wanted the game since I liked the anime artstyle and the weapon designs. But every weapon was basically the worst elements of recent MH games combined.
1. Every weapon is designed to play like Striker Lance or vanilla Rise Hammer with Impact Crater spam in that optimal gameplay revolves around you building your character around using one move and around spamming that move over and over and over and over again. Your builds similarly revolve around you stacking up as many damage chips to make that one move as strong as possible.
2. The game had Clutch Claw before Iceborne even existed. At the start of every single fight, you have to do this painfully long "Devour" animation in order to give your weapons a temporary buff that allows them to activate the aforementioned chips you equipped. If you get hit during that animation, you have to redo it all over again, just like Clutch Claw, and you don't get to activate the chips.
3. If you thought base World had a shit amount of content, wait until you see GE3's lack of content. Your endgame grind is grinding for those chips and the updates the game adds basically gives you variants of already existing clothing for you to wear.
4. Attacks lack any sense of meaty hit feedback. Everything felt like Insect Glaive in Risebreak. Zero meaningful hitstop.
