The joke here is that the Japanese man is easily fooled by her simply introducing herself in poor English and then immediately switching to Japanese. Ann is established repeatedly as a bad liar, and this scene plays on this because ironically even though she did the bare minimum for two sentences it worked because Japanese people don't know English.
In the English version, she maintains a British accent for the rest of the conversation, and the Japanese man has no reason to believe she is faking it because she isn't doing a poor job. This contradicts her characterization as a poor liar and actress, and really takes away some of the humor of the scene.
