Honestly I liked both, also really? I loved that scene as a kid idk something about a man to man instead of the usual fight was interesting. Also slade was more like a warped since of honor so evil but he had his reasons.
I never truly saw it as gaslighting as if anything it helped beast boy not romantize terra in his head. He just helped snuff out the simp in him, he was like "no she wasn't secretly good, no she wasn't forced to do this. She hated you guys and you were just a job to her". An I kind of respect it also let's be honest gaslighting or not if slade didn't say that BB would have never recovered. Sure he was left crying and alone but he could now move on compared to if he felt terra was saveable and he failed her.
