Cartographers.
>Player count: 8
It supports any player count.
>Time: 5-30 minutes
It takes about 20 minutes.
>Skill to Luck ratio: Mostly on the side of luck (to make things "fair"), but I would like to feel as if my choices matter
If you play badly, you'll lose. But if you play well someone greedier and luckier than you will win a fair amount of the time.
>Game Type: Any, although we have a fair amount of "party games"
It's a flip-and-write solitaire game.
It only has player interaction in the way Yahtzee does: deciding whether to be greedy or conservative based on how well the other players are doing.
It also has cards were everyone takes a neighbor's sheet and puts something in the worst spot they can find, but I don't think that qualifies as interaction.
>Obstacle: There is a "wild child" of 8 years of age
The game is dead simple outside bookkeeping (which isn't heavy either).
And the game is drawn on papers so things getting jostled around will not confuse the game state.
You could also try to keep the kid busy by encouraging them to decorate the tiles they draw on their map.
