I'm embarassed to say I have never voted in my life, but I plan to do so this year. In my own country naturally.
It feels difficult to break into learning about foreign countries' politics. There are often a lot of parties, tons of various problems to build an understanding of that is very hard without having grown up and worked there, and foreign cultures tends to have very unique problems to solve.
Not to mention the absurd amount of finance and political terms one needs to learn to really be considered an informed person.
Fortunately most people don't really want to hear foreigner's opinions on politics so it's enough for us to just vaguely understand what you are talking about and trying to learn more about all the various viewpoints in the country and the life they led that made them come to those conclusions (or which news sources they are just 受け売り).
