The problem with Final Fantasy is that an anthology series like this cannot survive in the modern age of hyper IP consumerism.
Back in the day people were a lot more willing to bat for unproven ideas, but nowadays any game that isn't part of a larger franchise is essentially sent out to die.
What do you think this means for Final Fantasy, where each new game is basically a totally different universe that no one has any prior investment in? They flop HARD, so the series needs to rely on the familiar to keep you coming back.
Sequels and remakes for stuff you already like that's guaranteed to make you excited.
Why do you think 14 even became as successful as it did? Through its own merits? Hell no, it's because that game threw out all semblance of originality for a hodge-podge of the franchise's greatest hits.
It's not about the new ideas anymore, it's about the shit that makes you point at the screen and soiface because you recognize it from a previous game.
