I used to collect Soviet military decorations as well and I inherited some rare stuff from ancestors, one of my grandmas was one of the early sky diving instructors of the USSR and she received an extremely rare Soviet badge "master of parachuting of the USSR" in 1946, by the time there were less than 500 people with badges like those and by the time the USSR died only 4000 people received those awards. There's some WW2 stuff as well but it's not as rare or unusual. Does the German order have a number? All Soviet orders were numbered on the backside, so even if you lose all the papers you still could trace the award back to its owner through state archives
