Nah, that didn't really have anything to do with why /dbs/ turned out the way it was.
/dbs/ was basically treated like a pro wrestling general, and doing that caused the autism to ferment. It really started with the Gohanfag vs Caulifag wars of the Universal Survival arc, a war focused solely on two characters WHO NEVER ONCE INTERACTED IN THE ENTIRE ANIME.
What followed was kind of what you describe, which was the ironic Jiren obsession, again, treating it like wrestling with him being "The Strongest", you've all seen the copypasta and some image macros related to it. From there it just kept going fueled by people trying to ape the funnier parts of the general (Jirenfagging -> Scholarposting -> Cuckposting -> Being ironically gay/into trannies (You Are Here)).

The /int/ threads prove that either most of /dbs/ uses VPNs or they have the greatest range of posters of any general I've seen (lots of Euros, South Americans, normal Americans, even a few Asians in there).
