Mostly this. If Multi-meltas were 12" melta range, there could be something to it. Maybe if they were at least 9", which is halfway between 6" and 12" omg.
I reckon Multi-meltas were nerfed to people would consider giving regular meltaguns the time of day. Pic related doubles its mass yet is barely above regular meltaguns now.

I'm still grudging about Penetrating hits not doing any Status effect at all. Ilogical...
