>NG2
I hate to say it but NG2fags were right. This game is cathartic. The game follows a consistent system and you are rewarded very well for understanding the rules of the game.
This is the game where every mechanic matters. Learning WP, WR, and GR are all mandatory. They were good to know in 1 but 2 is where you HAVE to know these systems by heart.
By the time you git gud enough to beat encounters without relying on UTs/OTs/IDs, nothing else comes close to the combat of this game, not even DMC...until you examine the parts of the game that shows it's blatantly unfinished.
In 1, each encounter have 3 enemies, and usually 1 of them is range. In 2, a LOT of the encounters boil down to just throwing 10 of the same enemy types. 10 IS ninjas, 10 werewolves, 10 gajas, 10 van gelfs, etc and it sucks. This is more apparent with the test of valors, there's no way those fights were really designed to be like that.
I know it's a popular take here that 2 is bad because of UT spam and they should nerf UTs to fix the game but i think that's the wrong way to approach the problem, limiting the player option in an action game is always retarded. 2's problem is encounter design, not UT. Encounters like this, https://files.catbox.moe/c55mjh.mp4 where there's a good mix of enemies is where the combat really shines. Later in this same chapter where they throw 10 of the same enemies is when people start to feel like the only way to clear it is by spamming UTs.
Anyway, despite being unfinished, I think the game is still good enough to be comparable to NGB. There's way too many improvements from the first game, the weapon movesets being expanded, new weapons, range UT is an amazing addition, and the overall focus on action over adventure is way more preferable for me. The combat itself is better than 1, the reason why I can't put 2 above the 1 is due to the game being unfinished. The terrible encounter design, the DLC costumes and mission mode bring it down but it's still an amazing game.
