The "hit the iceberg head on" stuff was always silly to me. *Maybe* the ship would have survived (looking at how Britannic reacted to shock bending frames and making watertight doors fail to close, I lean towards "Titanic still would have sank.") No officer would have ever ordered it. Smashing the entire bow in, killing hundreds of crew & passengers, and guaranteeing the company's newest liner was horribly damaged.
