I'm not sure I even COULD be assertive or leading with a girlfriend. It's like a parent asking their kid to drive the car. I don't mean I want to be helpless, dependent, needy, babied, and stuff like that all the time, but to actively pursue and lead sounds foreign. I wouldn't know what I or she would want. I'd constantly look to her for approval for how I'm "leading", and that feels like a convoluted and dishonest way about it.
