In Protoman's ending of Megaman Power Battles 2 it's revealed that Protoman has a deflective power source. Dr. Light offers to fix it but Protoman refuses and runs off even with Light begging Protoman to let him fix it, with it heavily implying he will due soon if it's not.

And this defect only exists because Protoman was the first such robot Dr. Light tried to make who ran off before he was completed.

Doesn't sound like Light was being cruel to me.
