I would not recommend a wacom intuos small or medium, looking at the specifications it states that it only has:
- 4,096 pen pressure
- 3 spare nibs (standard)
- bluetooth requiring charging
- uses the fat pen design instead of the new slim ones, which may not be ideal for a newbie to get used to
- express buttons being on the top instead of on the side like the old design seems like counterintuitive design

Years also I figured the intuos was already an outdated and outclassed range since the alternative brands were providing better screenless hardware specifications and content. I went with the Huion H950P instead of an intuos because it had:
- 8192 pen pressure
- 8 standard spare nibs with a pen holder
- no bluetooth, no charging
- similar active area and size
- fat pen just like wacoms (but they eventually got rid of the charging bit which is very good)
- express buttons on the side to mirror if youre left or right handed and use the spare hand or drawing hand's fingers to press intuitively on the sides
Also to get a basic 8192 pen pressure (which should've been a standardised feature at this point) you had to pay for an intuos pro which back then went from costing $100 to something stupid like $320 for the same thing but with more pressure. Meanwhile Huion only cost me about $60-75 back then for the same "pro" experience. I'm unsure about now but back then there was also a lot of complaints with wacom nibs running out suspiciously fast so I'm unsure if that's still the case thesedays but not providing the other 2 new nibs with the 3rd being the standard one is a bit sleazy. But overall if you want a screenless tablet consider the Asian alternatives. There's no point getting kinda upset about "oh but it's Chinese and maybe it's poorer quality" since screenless tablets are by design supposed to be cheap by this point when there's other crazy things like screen displays for drawing, etc that atleast requires some margin of innovation and criticism.
