I think it works well enough as a character study of a glory hound protagonist lost in his own delusions, and while linear Oorah! military shooters aren't as prominent as they were, I think the subversion aspect can still work in terms of flipping the table on simply following directives blindly, whether its related to game mechanics or how organized conflict dehumanizes people on the other side of it.
Not that other games haven't already tackled the same topics before and since.
