nigga i'm not participating in July Sumo Grand Tournament in Nagoya, Japan
but if you want an actual answer, it boils down to two things:
> there are games I 100% won't play but would be interested in seeing others making sense of
> there are people out there i 100% wouldn't be friends with but would like to hear the crazy shit they say to others
There are broadcasters who do streams of obscure Finnish-only games made by 16 year olds, 0.1% rarity itch.io pulls, point-and-clicks made in 2000, mods for 1994 X-Com etc. I have no interest for these (otherwise i'd find them myself), but the fact that there's no information about it adds to like several hundred people trying to deduce what is actually happening with the only info given from the Internet or the broadcast.
Also, the chat itself is a very lenient environment where you can see someone posting something, shoot a couple of messages and then never see them again, kinda like 4chan. There are people sharing offtopic things that are interesting (like someone sharing their experiences with German property law or some shit) that you wouldn't normally talk about with anyone but they've already started the conversation so why not tap into it.
I don't really like "friend simulators" since a lot of the time it devolves into full-blown seething once someone says anything out of line, like there's a lot of pent up hostility or something.
