Things changing on paper =/= things changing in practice. The VA is still a notorious shitshow, you're still at risk for being bullied out of the military for seeking mental health assistance, your future can still be put in jeopardy due to office politics and bureaucracy, etc etc. Unless you're going in as an officer or are absolutely desperate, there are not many reasons to join the US military during peacetime
