I checked out a bunch of MUDs like 5 years ago and the ONLY ones that still exist are the ones that take themselves way too seriously for their 20 active player userbases. I played a ton of them before EverQuest released and there were a million super casual MUDs and they all used that one South Park season 1 map. I think that's lost media at this point.
