I'll probably give 3 another rewatch. It's been probably a decade since I last saw it. I went through all 5 of them with my wife, then gf, and by the end we were burnt out but I'm willing to see if my opinion changes. I definitely think 1 it still goes 1 > 2 > 3/5 > 4 though, but maybe the gaps are not as big as I remember.
imo the first film is the only one that understands that Jack isnt actually the main character, Will is. He's the guy we're meant to root for and Jack is the spectacle that enriches the adventure. Making the movies about Jack and his backstory is where they immidiately went off course. He plays off other characters well, but when he's the focus it doesn't work as well, and the sillywillyness gets annoying after a while.
