I wanted to get into fishing for months. I was pretty overwhelmed with all the options in Walmart and Dicks and went to a smaller store. The guy set me up for 25 bucks, cheap rod/reel, float, size 8 hooks, a few lures and some nightcrawlers.

I managed to catch some perches and bluegills with the float and nightcrawlers (when they didn't just eat the worms off the hook.) But I didn't have any success with the lures. 2 of them, i think are spinners, one of them looks like a caterpillar that moves around under water. Do i need to keep trying or are they cheap shit that wont catch anything?

Any tips on catching anything bigger than bluegills / perches or to get more catches and less stolen worms? Or other beginner advice resources?

I plan to get a better rod/reel setup in the future, maybe next year, for now I want to build up more skills and tackle.
