People focus on the controller because it's a perfect statement of the type of care for safety and quality the man put into his products. It's harder for people to wrap their heads around why making a submarine out of that material is fucking retarded, but if you say "he even used a bootleg controller" people instantly understand everything was a jerry rigged disaster waiting to happen. Hundreds of thousands of dollars per expedition and the man couldn't afford to use a couple real, wired xbox or similar quality controllers. It's total lunacy.
