I think that the whole angle of Cloud denial is really interesting and actually fits perfectly well with the original, TOO well in fact, to the point that it makes me think that this plotline was at some point in the original but got cut, so they added this "grief/guilt" arc in advent children to compensate.
Im more surprised at people thinking her death cutscene in rebirth was THE aerith death scene, as if this plot line wont be revisited later in part 3 and act as part of Cloud arc of acceptance (of himself and others). Like, "no stab" or "we didnt see the burial", yeah of course because thats the point. We are looking at everything through Cloud's eyes. To each his own, i guess. But i found it really interesting, even if the execution wasnt perfect. I vividly remember being a little confused because the cutscenes and dialogue sometimes are too vague or go too fast, but once i saw THIS specific moment, of aerith "returning", speak to cloud and then see Cloud smiling alone like a schizo retard told me everything they wanted to do and it was pretty cool.
