I'm trying to get something like RCT terrain. I can see why 3d is often recommended for this type of thing.
The terrain is AoE2 is pretty brutal, especially when you're trying to wall on a slope.
I'm was thinking of making slopes unbuildable, requiring you to flatten the terrain first. It would solve the issue of trying to build on terrain sloping away from the camera (opposite side of hills obscured by the perspective)
Having the elevations as cliffs with dedicated elevation changing ramps like in SCBW is definitely a good solution but I don't think it would work for my purposes.
