Honestly, I would ditch the gun pickup system and instead have a more standard Weapon load-out system, With the defaults being two custom made 1911 pistols because that's cool as fuck. As well as taking cues from Vanquish for gameplay.
Also fuck the chose your own adventure plot thing, Have the plot be mostly linear with some choices and a good and bad ending
