It's not just TLJ. It's the fact that the existence of the sequel trilogy is based entirely off undoing the accomplishments of the original trilogy. Disney needed the new republic to collapse because they wanted to market another "underdog rebels vs evil empire" but in order to do that you have to basically say "yeah all of these characters that had successful story arcs with character growth are in actuality complete and total fuckups but we're going to do it in such a lazy and offscreen way." Han and Leia had a broken marriage and were shitty parents. Mon Mothma dissolved the military. Luke overcame his desire to resort to violence against his Father but backslid into a more petty violence against his nephew.
