Dai-Guard doesn't need carrying it literally just needs the Barrier to fix its armor issues. It only has one move that costs EN that you'll mostly stop using once you get the knot buster anyways. You can use a shittier terrain part if you want but you get a good number of the DM Adapters (the A rank version not the S) and then whatever in the third slot.
Ammo based barrier pierce moves are nice against the OG enemies too.
It's like Big O in D, people dismiss it but it really doesn't take a lot to do well. It's still a main character unit after all, with three pilots and good spirit lists.
