Ryu isn't really "the main healer", he just gets a couple low-level healing spells. But there's something to be said about how the actual main healer is your childhood friend and the other designated healer is a big beefcake armadillo man, while Nina who was a healbot damsel in the first game was reimagined as a black mage.
