I mean the entire purpose of a sub/dom relationship is the lack of equality. They are NOT normal couples. They have a whole insignia for this idea. BDSM is all about playing with power dynamics and imbalances. The argument could be made that BDSM is inherently exploitative and what separates it from a flat-out abusive relationship is whether or not the one being exploited likes being exploited and has explicitly permitted the ways in which they are exploited.
The difference between a consensual BDSM sub/dom relationship and an abusive one is whether or not any mutually agreed upon boundaries are being violated.
