It doesn't need to be Scott Burns production, but any EQ setting that makes a once compressed, often guitar-dominated mix/master better is far preferable. It may sound like a bad idea to lower the volume of the frequency range where the lead instrument sits, but a lot of compressed masters have the guitars right at your ears with everything else drowned out, making it sound uneven. Adjusting this brings the music closer to a balanced, higher range, complete band sound that fills your ears rather than poking them.
