Here's one you don't hear too often: Battle Engine Aquila.
It's like playing a hero unit in a larger RTS. You aren't invincible but you're strong enough to effect the overall battlefield and shift things to your side's advantage. The cutscenes are some of the worst I've ever seen and the story is pure "meh", but the gameplay is solid and requires a bit of thinking instead of pure action.
