well yeah its not like its dark souls or something. there is levity, humour and over-the-top exaggeration all over it it, but it definitely emphasized a rugged brutality with its style where characters and environments where much more dark, grainy and textured than the soft, plushy, rounded look that it has now. especially look at WotLK and its dark, desaturated look. TBC was quite colorful, but that was because it was supposed to be a very alien world that would contrast with the more grounded and diverse look of vanilla.
