Part 2/2
Now Sega was kind of trying to find footing in an only games market, sonic was a hit in these early 2000s with it’s various ports of older games and some other smaller scale new games, now here’s the kicker, this wasn’t that popular in japan this era so it just started dwindling popularity, they tried an anime to keep it alive but it was for naught as it was a pretty shoddy anime anyways, hard to compete with the shonen at the time, this era with it’s well… re-releases started bringing interest to the series for the “adults” who played sonic when they were younger wich was the american audience, now the american audience has a foothold on sonic, the japanese don’t care anymore for it but the americans do, sega tries to find footing woth sonic still but disaster after disaster came, specially 06 wich was an awful game, disatrous visuals, disastrous gameplay, overall disaster, this one was the last one to try this more shonen esq style of story wich americans on the internet (the nostalgia “adults”) didn’t really like to add salt to the wound, so it was forever canned, not for only because of the bad rep the reviewers and old fans or whatever but it was just unsucceful in general and to never do that type of mistake again, shonen canned and thereforth was the japanese market, some games later that weren’t very good too comes unleashed, this game visual wise and such was as least just japanese sonic could be, this was american through and trough, sonic team was still mostly japanese but now the main appeal was the american market only, thsi was the final nail in the coffin
Years pass and now sonic is starting to reach back to japan, this is real recent mind you, the american and japanese videogame market has never been so intertwined so sega now it’s probably trying to merge it’s properties at all cost maximum success of both
