Don't make them disabled. Make them enabled. They are deficient, but their deficiency has heightened their power elsewhere- whether by unlocking something, by focusing them on a skill that others usually ignore, or by just being so powerful that they can afford that disability.
And don't make purple glowing wheelchairs. Wheelchairs are hardly practical IRL, even less in a setting with bad roads and levitation. It can be a floating chair, but then you don't need the wheels.
