College was already becoming a paper printing machine. I know academics/tutors who are pressured by the institution to 'just pass' most, if not all but the absolute worst, students. The view is - they've paid their fees, just give them their degree as it's too much hassle to fail them.
Now that AI is coming for the knowledge economy, college is going to go back to its original roots - to make a person 'better', but not for a job. Historically, college, or university, was always about improving the student to be a more well-rounded human. For all its faults, the social sciences and humanities IS the true essence and nature of college.

TLDR; higher education was already on the integrity decline, but AI is going to kill it completely. Technical colleges are the way of the next 10-20 years....before robots take those jobs too.
