"Stamina" literally referred to your "shield" before you actually started taking health damage in Halo 3: ODST as a pseudo justification for not straying away from what everybody was used to with the previous games. So I think the passive should be something akin to your stamina meter acts like a second emergency healthbar when you're at 0% health, with the stamina meter being equivalent to 50% of your standard health bar. As long as your stamina meter remains above 0%, you'll stay alive. The moment it empties completely whether by taking damage or sprinting too much, you die.
