There isn't actually a world of difference between characters like Claire and Jill, and modern western slop ones like Aloy. They're all girlbosses with an attitude, and are shown to be just as competent as their male counterparts when it comes to fighting monstrous abominations with a heavy arsenal of weapons. The slippery slope was always there, we just didn't pay attention to it.
