You literally just proved his point, dumbass. You just said, "Alpha 3 was well loved" and it didn't even sell more than a million units, which was a far cry from what the series initially sold with Street Fighter 2's release, on top of the fact that around 35% of those Alpha 3 sales came exclusively from Japan.
Compare this with other fighting games of the time. Even Mortal Kombat Trilogy, which was a compilation slop release, sold over twice as many units. Even Soul Calibur sold more units on the Dreamcast, which is pretty fucking sad. And the truly sad thing about all of this? Those 1 million unit sales for Alpha 3 were an exception to the norm by that point, a peak of the franchise since SF2, while not even comparable to games like Smash, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, or even the WWF series which was outselling them at that point. They went from #1 to not even being in the top 5. There is no fucking way in hell you can argue that they hadn't fallen off by that point.
