I always thought it was odd they brought them back in WoW when, as you pointed out, dwarves already filled their niche in WarCraft. They can't even use the excuse of a rivalry with goblins since they wouldn't be around until cata. Tangentially, it' also weird that female dwarves were completely overlooked when shortstacks took off despite having the biggest tits in WoW. Literally have an hourglass figure.
