Not a huge lore buff but I was told that it's mostly cultural. Only reason I made him Skaal is cause the custom race mod I use is called "Lore Friendly" and lists the custom nord class as such, so I just rolled with it and said his mother is a pure blood Skaal who came from Solstheim.
